ORLEN Upstream awarded with CIPS certificate again

08-04-2016  News

The highest standards in conducting procurement processes use by ORLEN Upstream have been confirmed with a positive recertification by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS). ORLEN Upstream was awarded with CIPS Certificate in 2011 and this was the first time a Central-Eastern European company received this title.

On April 1st 2016 ORLEN Upstream received a certificate confirming compliance of the practices and procedures used by the company with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply from Will Beattie, the General Manager of CIPS Continental Europe and Mariusz Turek, Manager of CIPS Poland.

The received CIPS recertification is in my opinion, particularly valuable for the exploration and production industry in which we face a high level of operational risk and many suppliers operating as part of one project at a time. In hindsight of the very broad scope of the issues assessed at the recertification we are pleased to say that we have obtained confirmation of the very high level of procurement standards which support supply chain management by complying with quality requirements and bringing cost efficiency – said Wieslaw Strak, Vice President of Finance at ORLEN Upstream.

The recertification procedure required an in-depth audit. It involved an analysis of purchasing procedures, policies and instructions in force at ORLEN Upstream. All documents and answers have been verified at several levels and the quality of the awarded certification has been additionally confirmed by a positive recommendation - not only from CIPS verifiers, but also in the next step - by an independent auditor. The recertification examination covered 110 thematic areas and the total number of documents submitted to auditors amounted to 400 of various studies (regulations, procedures, instructions, agreements, compilations, plans, presentations, reports and others).

The recertification proves clearly that ORLEN Upstream's purchasing processes reflect the globally developed models in this respect. A correctly conducted purchasing process followed by a well-drawn up contract constitute a guarantee for both parties -  the investor and the contractor - said Pawel Martynek, Procurement and Administration Director at ORLEN Upstream.

Certification of the company by CIPS is one of the elements of the Integrated Management System that is functioning at ORLEN Upstream since 2009. When awarded in 2011 ORLEN Upstream was the first Central-Eastern European company awarded by CIPS. The renewal of the certificate received by ORLEN Upstream today shall be valid until 2019. PKN ORLEN also was awarded with a corporate certificate of purchasing procedures from CIPS at the end of last year.

CIPS is a global purchasing organisation established in Great Britain in 1932, associating more than 106,000 members from 150 countries. It is the most prestigious association of its kind in the world. CIPS certification consists in a multi-level examining of the development level of purchasing processes functioning in a company, based on a comprehensive analysis of procedures and documentation. It is conducted based on comparison with the world's greatest organisation and the CIPS standard developed in cooperation with 1000 purchasing practitioners from all over the world.
