PGNiG and ORLEN discovered natural gas deposit in Greater Poland

29-05-2017

Newly discovered deposit is located nearby Środa Wielkopolska. For the first time geologists used horizontal drilling technology in sandstone rocks present in Western Poland. Gas extraction will begin shortly in this location.

Specialists from Polish Oil & Gas Company (PGNiG SA) and ORLEN Group discovered a new natural gas deposit. Drilling of the Miłosław-5K/H well was successfully completed. Thanks to using a novel method of reaching the deposit using horizontal drilling, a significant flow of natural gas from Permian sandstone rocks (so called Rotliegend) present in western Poland was obtained

The well is located in Kórnik - Środa Wlkp. licence (no. 32/96/p) and reached the true vertical depth of over 3,650 m and it measured depth is 4,500 m, including a 400 m of horizontal section drilled within the gas deposit. Initial tests indicate that the accumulation of hydrocarbon is a commercial one, thus natural gas will be extracted from the Miłosław-5K/H well in the future.

Works related to flow testing, aimed at estimation of the deposit size, have been continued. The well was drilled in cooperation with the upstream segment team of ORLEN Group. PGNiG SA is the operator within this licence and holds 51% of shares, ORLEN Group holds the remaining 49%. The newly discovered deposit is located in the area of deposits already and jointly exploited by PGNiG and ORLEN, such as: Radlin, Lisewo, Winna Góra.
