ORLEN completes drilling works on its tenth exploration well.

18-03-2014

This week the ORLEN Upstream team has already completed its tenth drilling well for the exploration of unconventional oil and natural gas fields in Poland.
The Stoczek-OU1K directional well in Kisielsk, located in Stoczek Łukowski commune, reached a total length of 4,307 m, with the horizontal section of the well at a depth of more than 2.9 km. The completed well is the third horizontal well drilled by the Company, and at the same time the second exploration drilling performed on the ‘Wodynie-Łuków’ concession, located on the border between Mazovian and Lublin provinces. The exploration area under this concession is 1,190.74 square kilometres and stretches along the boundary of two geological basins – Lubelski and Podlaski. Silurian mudstones and claystones laying at around 3 km below ground level are a prospective occurrence of unconventional hydrocarbon accumulations in this region.

The drilling operation in the Stoczek-OU1K well lasted 6 weeks. During this period, the works were supervised by the Regional Mining Authority, the State Mining Authority as well as the Regional Inspectorate of Environmental Protection. Each inspection confirmed that the operations completed by ORLEN Upstream as well as its subcontractors were performed in a correct and safe way.
After demobilization, the Bentec 450T drilling rig will be transported to another location in the Świdnik district (Lublin province) where the ORLEN Upstream team will drill a vertical well for conventional hydrocarbon resources in 2Q. At the same time, subsequent exploration operations will be prepared, including an analysis of the Stoczek-OU1K well data, paying special attention to further intensification treatments. A hydraulic fracturing treatment in this location can still be carried out in the second half of this year.
