Concession areas
Exploration, assessment and production of gas from
unconventional reservoirs are one of the priorities
of the current business strategy at PKN ORLEN,
the largest oil corporation in Poland. Its daughter
company, ORLEN Upstream, holds 10 oil and gas
exploration licences in Poland: eight in the area of
Lublin and Mazovia voivodeships (provinces) and
two in central Poland (near the cities of Łódź and
Sieradz).
At the turn of 2012, the company drilled two verti-
cal wells within its Lubartów and Wierzbica licence
areas, in the vicinity of Lublin. On the basis of the
results of laboratory core sample tests, it was deci-
ded to continue the work in Syczyn, where another
vertical well with a horizontal section was drilled
in autumn. The next phase will involve hydraulic
fracturing.
In autumn 2012, ORLENUpstream constructed another
vertical exploration well at the village of Goździk, in the
county of Garwolin. Towards the end of the year the
company came back to Berejów, where rock samples
had been taken for analysis in 2011, in order to drill
a second exploration well – this time, a horizontal one.
At the beginning of the 2013 ORLEN Upstream drilled
new vertical well in Nowy Stręczyn in Lubelskie voivod-
-eship. At the same time, preparations are being made
for a further two exploration wells to be constructed in
Lublin voivodeship, in Nowy Uścimów and Dobryniów.
In addition to carrying out its investment projects, the
company is in dialogue with the local communities in
the areas covered by its licences. Wiesław Prugar, Pre-
sident of the Management Board at ORLEN Upstre-
am, is also the President of the Polish Exploration and
Production Industry Organisation.
