The process of hydraulic fracturing. The magnified section shows gas particles moving to the well (blues arrows) from the
cracks created in the fracturing process. The fractures seen in the illustration can be between 60 and 100 metres long, while
the process itself is performed at a depth of 3000 m. Sand prevents the fractures from closing during production.
