ORLEN continues the exploration of conventional hydrocarbon deposits in the Lublin Province

22-04-2014

PKN ORLEN has started operations on the vertical exploration well, Lublin-OU1, which are carried out in the location of Minkowice.

The drilling operations in Mełgiew commune, Świdnik county, will last around 2 months. At that time, the depth of Lublin-OU1 well is planned to reach about 4,600 m. The geological objective is to explore Devonian and Carboniferous conventional hydrocarbon accumulations. The Lublin-OU1 well is located within the “Lublin” exploration license (No 27/2007/p).

During the drilling of the vertical well, geophysical well logging will be carried out. Rock samples and reservoir fluids are to be collected and analysed.

If the Lublin-OU1 well results are positive, a brief production test will be performed. Following an analysis of the test results and interpretation of geological data, ORLEN will be able to schedule additional operational works to document the potential reserves.

The PKN ORLEN strategy for 2013–2017 envisages further development of upstream segment. One of its main objectives is to continue exploration and appraisal works in Poland, by acquiring new seismic data, interpreting archived geological data and carrying out well drilling and stimulation projects. In the upcoming years, ORLEN is planning to invest up to PLN 5.1 billion in the exploration and production sector.
