Wood Mackenzie and ORLEN Upstream Unconventionally About Unconventional Resources

Between 6-7 April 2011  a meeting under the patronage of Wood Mackenzie “Exploring in an Unconventional World” was held. The E&P heads of the largest upstream corporations worldwide participated (Anadarko, Apache, Armstrong Oil & Gas, BG, BP, BHP Billiton, Carrao, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Ecopetrol, EI Paso, EGI, ENI, ExxonMobil, Gaz de France Suez, Hess, Hunt Oil, Husky, KRISEnergy, Maersk Oil, Marathon, Murphy Oil, Nexen, Noble Energy, Occidental, Origin Energy,  ORLEN Upstream, Pacific Rubiales, Pemex, Premier, Remora Energy, Repsol – YPF, Samson, Santos, Sasol Petroleum, Statoil, TAQA, Total, Tullow Oil, Woodside, API, Wood Mackenzie)

Two-day discussions and workshops were devoted to international situation of the mining sector. Among others, such issues as expenses incurred until 2010 for conventional and unconventional explorations, limited profitability of the industry and the impact of the recent discoveries of the deposits on that industry were discussed. Also, the consequences of the Macondo catastrophe for the mining business were discussed. One of the workshop sessions was individually devoted to the problems of the unconventional project implementation – how unconventional approach to the unconventional hydrocarbon exploration is advisable upon the implementation of such projects.
